CHOOSING A FRIDGE FOR YOUR KITCHEN RENO
A fridge is an item you may not immediately consider when thinking about your kitchen reno. Or you may just think that can be sorted later. Of course, you need to go for quality as it is used daily by all family members. You need to make sure it is reliable and long lasting. However, there is more to it than that which you will realise once you read this. You will also see that it is crucial you consider this at the start of your designing journey.
Follow these tips for finding the perfect fridge to suit both your kitchen and household.
INTEGRATED
An integrated fridge is hidden behind a cupboard door that matches and sits flush with the rest of your kitchen cabinetry. Integrated models are great for a clean, streamlined effect, and very popular in modern designed kitchens.
FREESTANDING
Freestanding fridges are usually less expensive then integrated fridges. They can go practically anywhere and can be taken with you if you decide to move. You will also have more choice of colours and sizes.
AMERICAN-STYLE FRIDGE-FREEZER
These are the models where the fridge and freezer are side by side rather than on top of each other. Very popular with larger families. They also usually incorporate additional features such as water and ice dispensers. The downside is that they tend to be more expensive to buy and run than the standard fridge/freezer. They also take up more room.
So things to consider for your kitchen design are:
- What size fridge do you need for your family?
- What space can you comfortably allow in your kitchen design?
- Do you need a freezer compartment and if so, how big?
Other things to consider:
- Luxury items such as – A built in camera where you can view the contents of your fridge while you are grocery shopping (on your phone) to see what you need to buy
- A child lock
- Energy rating – This might mean that they’re more expensive initially, but these models will cost you less to operate in the long term compared to older fridge- freezers.
